I had an awesome encounter today with another family. We were at Discovery Place and my kids were playing at the water table. A young man came over & started playing near sean. His mom was there & I asked how old he was. She said "10". She saw Sean and asked if he was mine and asked how old he was. That was it. I never mentioned ds and neither did she. She walked away.
She came back after a little while & asked if Sean had Down syndrome. Then she said "she doesn't see ds in her son. She only sees him." I thought maybe I had insulted her and I let her know that I have only ever found that people recognize it when they have someone close to them with the extra genes. Which is true in my case.
She asked if she could hold Sean and I said yes. He snuggled in & she mentioned how she missed that age and the snuggles. Her daughter held Sean & Chris came to say hi & make googly eyes at Sean.
It served to show both of us that we share a silent and humbling bond. One of us may have needed to be reminded and the other needed to be shown.

omg, i love this.
