Because it all went so well, we went over to McDonalds. Stan was really in need of some fries. And really...... who can blame him? There's just something about Mickey D's fries.
We spent some time in the house because it was quite yucky outside. But on Saturday we went on an impromptu trip into Manhattan to FAO Schwartz. We got on the "D" train and saw so many cool things. In the tunnel leading to the Manhattan Bridge there is a kaleidoscope type thing. The faster you go the faster it plays. When we started to cross the river on the bridge Stanley looked out the window to see the boats in the East River.
and when we came out we were on Columbus Circle. We tried to see the top of Trump Tower, but Stanley couldn't see the top. He couldn't imagine how high that building actually is.
Then we saw the new Time Warner building. That building is not nearly as nice as Trump Plaza.
We never thought we'd get to FAO. It was HUGE!!! Stanley was greeted by one of the toy soldiers & welcomed inside. The soldier even commented that he'd never seen a Flat Stanley with clothes. Can you imagine letting a naked Stanley run around NYC? Even we'd think that's crazy. Especially this winter.
As soon as we got in there, it was like a zoo full of stuffed animals of every shape & size. We headed to the back of the store & had ourselves a milkshake. MMMMMMM
They even have a make your own Muppet.
Then we walked passed The Oakroom in the Plaza Hotel and passed Central Park.
Today we went on the biggest adventure yet. We went to the Statue of Liberty. It was majestic to ride the ferry to get there & see Lady Liberty get bigger & bigger the closer we got. When we got off the train, we went straight to the boat because we bought tickets before we left. We went through the security to get onto the boat. I swear it's easier to get on a plane than it is to get through security for the statue.
Stanley was struck by the path taken through the river to get to the statue. Many people don't know it, but the reason the ferry doesn't take a straight path from Manhattan to Liberty Island is because the US Parks Service has chosen to make it as historically accurate as is possible. The ferry takes the same path that folks immigrating to NYC. And maybe because we knew that we were that much more awe struck.
The ferry that goes from Liberty Island to Ellis Island also takes the same path the immigrants would've taken on their ships as they passed Lady Liberty to Ellis Island. Unfortunately we weren't able to make it to Ellis Island today as Meredith & Stanley fell asleep on the ferry on our way there. So we just continued on our way home. We did get to see the hospital for contagious diseases and some of the buildings immigrants that had to wait for clearance to enter the United States or wait to return to their home countries stayed.
